Ladies and Gentlemen: the Willamette Writers’ Conference is upon us! It will be held August 1st through 4th at the Portland Airport Sheraton Hotel, and registration is still open. Admission prices range from $195 for a single day, to $450 for the full three days (prices are slightly higher for non-members), and full-time students get a 20% discount.
Willamette Writers is an organization devoted to supporting current and aspiring writers. It was founded in 1965 and provides meeting places for writers to exchange ideas and information, and programs designed to help writers increase skills related to the craft of writing. The WWC is an annual opportunity for writers to meet and exchange ideas, get expert advice, sell their work, and pitch ideas to literary agents, film managers, and editors.
This year, more than 50 literary agents, editors, film managers, agents, and producers will be on hand looking for talent. Don’t have anything ready to pitch just yet? No problem. There are nearly 100 workshops to choose from, all conducted by seasoned pros in the areas of fiction, nonfiction, screenwriting, manuscript editing, publishing, pitching, entering writing contests, research, and the writing business. Check out the Workshop Schedule to find out which ones are right for you.
New to the conference this year is a series of workshops and talks focused on self-publishing. Whether you are new to self-publishing, or you are a self-published author who needs help promoting your work, there is something here for you. The workshops will explore the world of self-publishing, from how to prepare an ebook, to how to market both print and ebooks together, including John Ellis’ Web Warrior Series, which guides authors through the process of establishing a web presence.
No matter what your experience, skill-level, or writing goals, you will find something perfect for you. As it says right there on the conference website, “Whether you write self-help books, historic fiction, blockbuster Hollywood screenplays, mysteries, romance, magazine articles, sci-fi, plays, children’s books, humor, need help to write or sell a movie script, or simply need help marketing yourself as a professional, you’ll find helpful guidance and keen insights at the 2013 Willamette Writer’s Conference.” So, go get yourself registered and meet us there!
