Now that the Untangling the Knot manuscript is under the care of the interior designer, the team has been working on creating interest in the book. We are building lists of upcoming events at which we would like the title to have a presence, and we are working on ways to make sure that the book is represented. For instance, we are contacting bookstores in Minneapolis to see if we might hold a reading during the 2015 Association of Writers and Writing Programs conference (AWP), which will be at the Minneapolis Convention Center in April. This would be a great opportunity for Untangling the Knot contributors to share some of their essays with a large audience.

The project is also contacting individuals that might be interested in reading Untangling the Knot and providing a blurb. These individuals include LGBTQ activists, authors, scholars, and even a celebrity or two. We are sending each of these individuals a personal email. Should one of these contacts respond and express interest, we will send them an uncorrected proof to read. The hope is to receive a few good blurbs that we can add to the exterior of the book before we send it to the printer in December.

Carter Sickels, the editor for Untangling the Knot, came to the PSU campus recently to meet with the project team. We were able to update him on the progress of the project, and get feedback from him regarding the direction we are taking with regard to marketing. For many members of the team, this was the first time they’d had the opportunity to meet Carter, and it was good for them to have the chance to ask him questions and learn a bit about him.
